Hero Maker

Two things to comment on

I have a map of the local area I am creating for an online campaign.

I also have the character builder going all the way through creation - and saving the file as a text file (I have comments in the text file as I plan to create a utility to manage the character).

It's all just a matter of time, but I will keep at it

Hero Builder

HeroBuilder is coming along. It does all the way through Disadvantages and Advantages.

I need to make some table for those, and then test some.

Tomorrow I'm helping my Dad pull some carpet up, so I'm not sure if this will quite get done this weekend but it might.

Real Life interupts but now it rolls

First the good news Hero Builder rolls abilities.

Took me awhile has a nasty head cold, but am on serious antibiotics now, plus the large project at work - is in a calmer stage so I am in better shape - stress / mentally.

I know it needs a reset option but first I want to work through all the steps of character creation to help people get a feel for the rules.

Hero Builder

The software - still a beta but it's at the point it's fun it takes you too the picking limitations stage.

You do need to roll some dice - I should have automated rolling in soon.

If I can stop watching it work - I'm having fun hammering off potential bad guy after bad guy

Character Making software

Working on software for character creation.

Have text file config files - so once I get it up there if you want to tweak it - I will also work with you on how to tweak things.

What to do next

Still working on the character creator, and it's coming along nicely. I have built most the tools the program will need - although it may still be a few weeks off.

In the mean time - I have thought about writing some world building articles.

An article on villians and their motives is one idea.

An explantion of the SPAT team and how it is organzied might be more useful.

Or an article on how to work up a small local plot into a potential world threatening enemy is a third idea.

Working on some software

Working on some character creation software. Right now it does the stats, and fixed advantages and disadvantages.

I could post it on the site if anyone asks - but I really want to take it a step further.

Watched Heroes Last night

Watched Heroes last night, and it made me think of one of the earliest conclusions I reached when looking at the super hero genre.

Random supers leads to chaos, some organized force needs to exist to stop them. In the comics those organizations always someone find the bad guys, mostly because they do lots of damage, a good guy has ties to the new or police.

I took a different spin on things. In Hometown Heroes we have SPAT - which stands for Super Powered Assualt Teams. Groups of supers that work in a support position to local police, and eventually gain the ability to conduct their own investigations.

Although this lead to a number of acronyms SPUD (super powered undercover detectives) being the most likely suspect. But through the years of running heroes campaigns SPAT stuck, and so it does.

In the Hometown heroes world 1% of the population has powers, although only 10% of them fit the level of players of higher. The rest have one power - which may of may not be useful.

It will be interesting to watch the world turn to chaos (or will it) on Heroes - I do really enjoy that show.

Inproved Rules section

Have redesigned the rules section - all the rules are found in three formats. HTML, PDF and open document. Why open document - because that is what I originally wrote them in. Although there was some diversion since then. So it's not just a clean up for the audience, but one that help me out too.

And I will take it - my wife has been in the hospital since friday, and they are not exactly sure why, which has made my life busier and been pretty hard on our 4 year old sun.

Web Site

This is the site for the rules. Going to link from there here too. Right now they are in PDF but will have some soon in html making it a little easier.

What sort of stuff should I have to make the rules easier to learn.

First Post

Hello,

I read my first book on game theory in 1981, and have been crunching numbers in my head since then. Ran a campaign in a home made supers rules -for about a decade on and off. Those rules were too complex and am starting with a simpler mechanic and adding the good stuff that made that system the fun that it was.
